Giacomo back to Adena Springs in Kentucky

Giacomo after winning the 2005 Kentucky Derby

Giacomo, the 2005 Kentucky Derby winner, and his multiple grade I-winning half brother Tiago have returned to Frank Stronach’s Adena Springs near Paris, Ky., for the 2013 breeding season. Fees will be announced later.

“Giacomo is Holy Bull’s leading money-earner at stud,” Stronach said. “Tiago beat Hard Spun and Curlin, and he earned over $2.3 million. His sire line produces nothing but runners. Giacomo and Tiago were both very tough and very sound classic runners, and are outcross stallions, which is what we need more of in Kentucky.”

Giacomo began his stud career at Adena Spring’s in Kentucky in 2007 and stood there through the 2011 season. He spent 2012 at Rich and Gaby Sulpizio’s Magali Farms in California, where he ranked as the leading third-crop sire and was fourth on the general sires’ list. Lifetime, he has sired eight stakes winners and eight stakes-placed runners and the earners of more than $3.8 milllion.

Tiago is by Pleasant Tap and stood his first season at Adena Spring’s in Kentucky in 2010 and the next year at Joe and Anne McMahon’s McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds near Saratoga Springs, N.Y. He did not breed in 2012 while recovering from exploratory colic surgery.

“We’re happy to have the boys back home and we’re really appreciative of our partnerships with Magali and with the McMahons,” said Eric Hamelback, Adena Springs general manager. “Their teams did a wonderful job with the stallions.”
