2013 Happy Birthday Zenyatta, a colt on April Fools Day!

New Mother Zenyatta

To celebrate her 9th birthday, Zenyatta gave birth to a healthy baby boy at 11:47 PM at Lane’s End Farm in Versailles, Kentucky . The colts sire is Tapit (foaled February 27, 2001, in Kentucky). The colt is her second foal.

On March 8, 2012, Zenyatta gave birth to a colt out of Darley Farm’s Bernardini. Still without a name he is referred to as 12Z.

Zenyatta was the winner of 19 consecutive races in a 20-race career. She was the 2010 Horse of the Year. She is owned by Jerry Moss and his wife Ann and trained by John Sheriffs. Zenyatta was ridden by jockey Mike Smith.

Zenyatta was sired by Street Cry, who also sired 2007 Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense in the same year.
Zenyatta was named after the album Zenyatta Mondatta, by The Police, who were signed to A & M Records by her owner, Jerry Moss.

Dam and colt are reported to be doing fine!

Zenyatta had a phenominal racing career. She won 17 Graded stakes races including 13 Grade I events and defeated 4 champions of 8 different awards: Gio Ponti (2009 American Champion Older Male Horse and 2009, 2010 American Champion Male Turf Horse), Sealy Hill (Canadian Horse of the Year, Canadian Champion 3 Year Old Filly and Canadian Champion Female Turf Horse) Summer Bird (2009 American Champion Three-Year-Old Male Horse) and Ginger Punch (2007 American Champion Older Female Horse).
