Giacomo, who paid off at $102.60 on a $2.00 bet as the upset winner of the 2005 Kentucky Derby, has made his new home at Magali Farms in Santa Ynez, California, for the 2012 breeding season.

The nine-year-old son of Holy Bull moves from Frank Stronach’s Adena Springs Farm in Paris, Kentucky, where he began his stallion career in 2007.

Tom Hudson, the manager of Malagi Farms said “We are very pleased to welcome Giacomo to Magali Farms and look forward to offering California breeders the only opportunity to breed to a Kentucky Derby winner in our state”.

Giacomo is out of the multiple stakes-winning Stop the Music mare Set Them Free, dam of six winners from seven starters. He is a half brother to multiple Grade 1 winner Tiago and Grade 2-placed winner Sea Jewel.

Campaigned at three by owners Jerry and Ann Moss and trained by John Shirreffs, the same connections as 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta, Giacomo won three of his 16 career starts and earned $2,537,316. Stronach Stables purchased an interest in Giacomo in 2006.

In addition to his Kentucky Derby victory, Giacomo also won the 2006 San Diego Handicap at Del Mar and finished second in the 2005 Preakness Stakes . He finished second in the Hollywood Futurity as a two-year-old.

His most notable foals include stakes winners Lady Giacomo and Jake Mo.

Giacomo’s 2012 stud fee has not been announced.
