Hialeah Park and the Brunetti family will proudly host a horsemen’s dinner honoring racing’s Triple Crown Ladies –Patrice Wolfson (Affirmed) and Sally Hill (Seattle Slew) on Tuesday April 15, 2014 in the Bella Notte restaurant at the new Hialeah Park Casino it was announced by a press release.

The event, the final horsemen’s dinner of the winter season organized by well-known Thoroughbred owner and racing ambassador Bill Hirsch, will get underway with a 6:30 PM ET cocktail hour followed by a 7:30 PM ET sit-down dinner.

As part of the festivities, Hialeah Park’s Owner and Chairman of the Board John J. Brunetti will make special presentations to Patrice Wolfson and Sally Hill in appreciation of the accomplishments of their respective racing greats.

Both women remain indelibly connected to Thoroughbred history for their roles in the ownership of the last two Triple Crown champions, Seattle Slew in 1977 and Affirmed in 1978.

Seattle Slew, owned in partnership by Karen & Mickey Taylor and Jim & Sally Hill, actually began his championship three-year-old season by winning two races at Hialeah Park.

On March 9, 1977, the son of Bold Reasoning by My Charmer defeated a field of allowance-level runners. And just 17 days later, on March 26, 1977, Seattle Slew won Hialeah Park’s Grade 1 Flamingo Stakes.

Less than 3 months later, jockey Jean Cruguet guided the colt to a four-length victory in the Belmont Stakes and Seattle Slew became the tenth Triple Crown champion, the second such winner of the decade, and the first Triple Crown champion to finish the series undefeated.

One year later, the Florida-bred Affirmed owned by the Harbor View Farm of Louis and Patrice Wolfson took the measure of arch-rival and 1978 Flamingo Stakes winner Alydar in the Kentucky Derby, The Preakness, and The Belmont under young rider Steve Cauthen to become the eleventh and most recent Triple Crown champion.

Attendees at the horsemen’s dinner will have the opportunity to toast Hill and Wolfson or share their testimonials and favorite stories about Seattle Slew and Affirmed. They will also watch videos of Seattle Slew’s two 1977 wins at Hialeah Park and Affirmed’s 1978 Belmont Stakes victory.

Seats for the horsemen’s dinner, limited to the first 50 pre-paid guests, are available for $50, which includes food, tax, and tip.

Additionally, $25 in Hialeah Park Casino free play vouchers will be provided to all paid attendees who are at least 21 years of age.
