Kentucky Derby SCAMS are a FACT
Sadly, almost every year we have heard about some sort of Kentucky Derby scam happening. They vary from non-existent Hotel rooms, Hotel room upgrades never made, tours that don’t happen and then the biggest of them all – no tickets to the Kentucky Oaks or Kentucky Derby.
Not everyone will have the opportunity to be close to a Kentucky Derby winner but it is always sad to hear about problems when people plan on “experiencing the Kentucky Derby“ only to have their dream dashed.
In 1947, my family loved horse racing and started going to the Kentucky Derby with friends. By the next year, people they did not know wanted to go there with them. That tradition has continued for 68 years.
BE VERY CAREFUL where you go to experience the Kentucky Derby as many learned this year. Check with Churchill Downs to see if the people actually have Kentucky Derby tickets.
Our Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby tickets are through Churchill Downs ‘Personal Seat License’ program. If you are counting on a company that hopes to buy tickets on the ‘black market’ you may end up like the people below.
This is what WHAS TV 11 in Louisville had to say about this years problem (this is what WHAS reported):
“What began as a dream of attending the Kentucky Derby has turned into a nightmare for several people who shelled out thousands of dollars to purchase tickets for the race, only to discover that the company that offered the tickets was actually running a scam.
According to a report by WHAS 11 in Louisville, the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s office have launched an investigation into the website **********.com. The website offered ticket packages for both the Derby and the Kentucky Oaks, with prices ranging from a few hundred dollars, to seats located on Millionaires Row.
Customers paid for what they believed were actual tickets; it wasn’t until race goers arrived in Louisville that they discovered they had been swindled. The Better Business Bureau told WHAS 11 that its office had received so many complaints, they decided to contact the FBI.
Reporters from WHAS 11 have made several attempts to contact Scott Davis, the president of **********, but he has not returned their phone calls. Davis was accused of a similar scam in 2010; he claimed that the tickets that had been ordered “did not come in as promised.” Those customers did receive refunds.”

UPDATE: 8/8/16
You can always check out a company with the Better Business Bureau or better yet – call the Sports venue and ask if the company or person has tickets to the event, check with hotels and see if they would recommend a company and ask how long they have worked together. Legit companies have good relationships with companies they use.
We stand by our remarks that ticket scams do happen each year surrounding the Kentucky Derby:
