More Kentucky Derby Prep races on January 7

Horse racing is in for a big Saturday!  There will be three additional Kentucky Derby prep races of various lengths across the country on January 7.  Over the years, Kentucky Derby starters have emerged from all three races.

The Count Fleet Stakes at Aqueduct at 1 mile 70 yards has seven possible Kentucky Derby contenders. This is the first of New York’s preps leading to the Wood Memorial in April.  The field for the Count Fleet in post position order with jockeys is Il Villano, Jose Flores; How Do I Win, Cornelio Velasquez; Whistleblower, Ariel Smith; Stephanoatsee, Junior Alvarado; Alpha, Ramon Dominguez; Speightscity, David Cohen and Shkspeare Shaliyah, Jose Valdivia Jr.

The 7th race at Gulfstream Park is a $75,000 allowance race but has some Kentucky Derby hopefuls.  The field for the race in post-position order with jockeys is Neck ‘n Neck, J. Lezcano: In the Beat, Calvin  Borel; Hollywood Script, J. Castanon; One Sock Down, P. Lopez; Two is to Many, A. Gallardo; Da Vinci, John Velasquez; A Boy named Em, C. Lanerie; Here we go Joe, E. Trujillo and Discreet Dancer, J. Castellano.

There is also the Turfway Prevue which will be the ninth race of a ten race card that begins at 5:30 p.m. Eastern.  Fourteen 3-year-olds were entered in the 26th running of the Prevue Stakes, a 6 1/2-furlong  polytrack race that marks the first stakes of the 2012 winter-spring meet at Turfway in Florence, Ky. Only 12 can start.
