Telethons to raise funds for Permanently Disabled Jockey Fund
The Jockeys’ Guild and Betfair TVG have announced a three-year agreement which includes a series of telethons to raise money and bring awareness to the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF) and sponsorship of the Guild’s Annual Assembly which is scheduled for December 11-12 in Las Vegas.
“Betfair TVG is proud to support the Guild and especially the PDJF. This telethon is really an extension of our long-term commitment to work with the jockeys who do so much for racing every day” said Kip Levin, TVG CEO.
“We appreciate the support of Betfair TVG and are excited to help raise funds for the PDJF through the telethon. Many jockeys will take part in the telethon by answering the phones when fans call in to make a donation. The PDJF has no dedicated funding from the industry so this telethon will help in providing the monthly monetary assistance to the riders who have suffered catastrophic on-track injuries,” said Jockeys’ Guild Chairman John Velazquez.
Betfair TVG has been a longstanding supporter of media rights for jockeys and has sponsored individual jockeys in the past. The network has also televised and promoted the Hippity Hop Derby at Del Mar, a fundraiser for the PDJF.
“Earlier this year the Guild sat down and worked with Kip and his team to address our initial concerns about integrity, security and process. After which we were happy to support their launch in New Jersey” said Terry Meyocks, National Manager of the Jockeys’ Guild. “Their first year has been very positive by bringing new fans, investment and wagering innovation to New Jersey we look forward helping the exchange into additional jurisdictions in the United States”.
