Bakers Dozen entered in 2012 Blue Grass Stakes led by Hansen

2012 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland Race Course

The Toyota Blue Grass Stakes on April 14 at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington, Kentucky will be one of the last 2012 Kentucky Derby prep races. Hansen will have his day to prove himself as a top contender for the 2012 Kentucky Derby. But there is no shortage of speed in the race – Heavy Breathing, Scatman, Hero of Order, Ever So Lucky, Howe Great, Midnight Crooner, and Politically Correct.

“When we saddle up, we know we’ll have Ramon on him, so I’m not going to say a thing; I’m going to keep my mouth shut,” said Dr. Kendall Hansen, who bred the gray/roan colt he now co-owns with Skychai Racing. “I’m sure he’s going to want to test drive him a little bit, and so whatever he’s going to want to employ in the Derby he’s going to want to try here. And with the speed in here, that could include tucking back as far as fourth or fifth. But then again, if his clock says there is a slower pace, I’m sure he’ll have no problem wiring them here. He was a little bit knocked out after the Gotham for a couple days, but I think he’s a push button horse that’s ready to go again.”

Dullahan and Prospective could be in the center of the pack with Gung Ho and Russian Greek giving their all as late runners.

Barry Irwin of Team Valor International and owner of Howe Great made an interesting comment about Hansen at the post position draw for the Blue Grass Stakes. “Hansen is the best horse of the crop,” said Irwin, “I don’t think we can beat him to tell you the truth.”

This is one of the largest and deepest Blue Grass fields in years. CNBC will have live coverage from 6-7 p.m. It should also be shown on TVG and HRTV. Who will be thinking about the 90 minute drive to Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky and looking for 2012 Kentucky Derby tickets Saturday night? There are a few horses in the race that Kentucky Derby Tours would like to see run in the 2012 Kentucky Derby.
