Pool 1 of the 2012 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager is scheduled to open at noon EDT on Friday, March 2 and will close on Sunday, March 4 at 6:30 PM EDT. The 2012 Kentucky Oaks Future Wager closes 30 minutes after the 2012 Kentucky Derby Pool 2 closes.

Please note our next blog will discuss Pool 2 for the 2012 Kentucky Derby Future Wager.

Back to the 2012 Kentucky Oaks – Grace Hall, the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies runner-up who narrowly lost Saturday’s Davona Dale in her 3-year-old debut is the 10 to 1 favorite among the 23 individual betting interests. Summer Applause, winner of Saturday’s Grade III Rachel Alexandra, is 12 to 1.

Missing from the wager is unbeaten champion My Miss Aurelia, who has been sidelined with a shin problem, and Stephanie’s Kitten, the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner, who is being pointed toward a stakes at England’s Royal Ascot meet.

The wager, with win and exacta wagering offered, is designed to allow horse players a chance to get better odds on a horse than they might on Derby or Oaks Day. Wagering interests in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager were chosen by a panel that includes Brisnet Marketing Director Ed DeRosa; Brad Free and Mike Watchmaker of Daily Racing Form; and John Asher, vice president of Racing Communications at Churchill Downs.

Because of the nature of future wagers, there is no refund if a horse does not make it to the 2012 Kentucky Oaks.

The 2012 Kentucky Oaks is held on Friday, May 4 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Our Kentucky Derby Tours group attends the Kentucky Oaks. Last year, we watched eventual Kentucky Oaks winner Plum Pretty during morning workouts on Wednesday of Derby week. Kentucky Derby Tours participants watched as she worked out for the Kentucky Oaks during our backside tour of Churchill Downs.
